Fish or beef? Would you prefer meat or fish for your main? You hear this question when you order a daily lunch special, before enjoying a multi-course evening meal, or when a meal is served on a flight. We have been asked this question many times, but never “would you prefer vegetables for your main?”
When we imagine a main dish, we invariably imagine animal-based food such as meat and fish. But this doesn’t mean that we hate vegetables. We like meat, fish, and vegetables, but vegetables are unlikely to be served as a main dish. We find this to be somewhat of a mystery.
Why don’t vegetables take center stage on our dinner tables?
Fuji Oil, a company that works with plant-based food and has undertaken R&D in the field of vegetable oils and fats and soy protein for more than 70 years, has worked to explain this.
So what is it that animals have but plants are lacking? We believe that this is the main factor when it comes to determining which ingredients will be a main dish and which won’t.
Taste? Texture? Aroma? Appearance? ... These can’t be it, as plants have their own taste, texture, aroma, and appearance. We shouldn’t compare these to animal-based foods to decide which is superior and which is inferior.
“I like meat and I like vegetables, but if there were only vegetables on my plate my meal would be missing a little something.”
We believe that there are many people who experience this feeling of something lacking but not being able to fully explain what it is.
We feel there is a little something missing when we consume vegetables and other such plant-based foods. Looking at it the other way around, animal-based products offer the sensation of satisfaction.
In other words, we believe that this gap in satisfaction is why vegetables aren’t a main dish. Aiming to create this sensation of satisfaction from plants is the technology brand MIRACORE™.
Different to taste, texture, aroma, and appearance, it brings the new perspective of “satisfaction” to the field of plant-based food.
